‘Nobody gave us a hope of being where we are’ - Bell

5 April 2024

Lee Bell says there is no pressure on Crewe Alexandra as the race for promotion hots up.

Crewe Alexandra are sixth in League Two with five games to go. They have a six-point cushion in the Play-Off places, and sit seven points outside the automatic promotion places.

There is everything to play for, but the Manager says the staff and the players must keep calm.

“Nobody gave us a hope of being where we are, so there’s no pressure on us,” he explained.

“We are in a really strong position and the key is to look forward. This group is strong-willed and they want to achieve something.

“We have to have a cool heads. It’s really easy as a football manager to start throwing cups around when things go wrong, but it’s important to take time to assess things properly.

“I’m enjoying pitting my wits against managers every week and I’m sure the players are doing the same on the pitch.”

Crewe visit 18th-placed Accrington Stanley, who are looking for their first win under new boss John Doolan, on Saturday (3pm),

Bell is looking for a reponse to the Easter Monday defeat to Forest Green.

He said: “That was a setback but that’s gone – we can only do something about it moving forward. We can put measures in place to make sure it looks different on Saturday.”
