Matchday Guide | Stockport (H)

24 October 2023

Crewe Alexandra will host Stockport County in a top-of-the-table clash at Mornflake Stadium tonight (7.45pm).

Lee Bell’s side will be in good spirits after their comeback victory at Crawley, and they are unbeaten in 14 at home. However, it will be tough against leaders Stockport who have won eight on the spin.

The Opposition

The Hatters sit top of League Two despite winning one of their first six games. A magnificent run, which has seen them take 25 of the last 27 points on offer, has propelled them to the summit.

The Gaffer

Dave Challinor took the reins at Edgeley Park in November 2021, and quickly guided Stockport back into the Football League for the first time in over a decade.

He started with Welsh side Colwyn Bay in 2010, had eight seasons with AFC Fylde, and two years with Hartlepool United, before returning to Stockport where he was a player.

Fighting Talk

Lee Bell: "It is a tough game; they have tons of experience and know-how. They are in for a tough game as well and they will know that, and we will hopefully get three points.”

Dave Challinor: "It is a big game between two teams that are in a good place from where they were last year. Belly has come in and done a great job."

Head-to-Head

Crewe have won 51 games against Stockport, while County have emerged victorious 61 times. The other 30 clashes have ended in draws.

Match Officials

The referee for the match is Martin Woods, while his assistants will be Thomas Harty and Ollie Williams. The fourth official will be Declan Ford.
