Artell: "Well Done, See You On Monday"

4 August 2018

Boss Dave Artell was delighted with his side's triumphant 6-0 start to the season, but refused to get carried away with 45 games still to play in League Two this season.

Goals from Charlie Kirk, Alex Nicholls (2), James Jones (2) & Chris Porter completed the rout over Morecambe to start the season off with a bang & the boss believes his side now have the perfect platform to build on going forward.

The first response from the post-match press conference was typically both clever & hillarious in a quirky kind of way, but he did admit that he would thoroughly enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Dave said: "I thought it was good. I've just told the lads in there, 'Well done, I'll see you on Monday.'

"You don't get much better than six on the opening day and I thought we thoroughly deserved it.

"It's very often you play 90 minutes & dominate through the entire thing, the opposition usually have a spell, but that didn't happen today. That's a pleasing aspect.

"I asked the lads what was the most pleasing thing. The good thing was that about six or seven of them said 'a clean sheet.' That's the aim.

"I think we're going to score goals & be fine on that front. Our challenge is to better our defensive record from last year & we've made a start on that today.

"George Ray has suffered a muscle spasm in the kidney area. We'll get that checked over the next 48 hours & hopefully it's nothing too serious. Him coming off was a blow obviously, but I thought Nicky came on & did very well.

"All in all thought a good day & get way to start the season - now we swiftly move on to getting ready for a trip to Newport next week."
