Gaffer previews MK Dons trip

15 March 2024

Lee Bell admits the stakes will be high at MK Dons tomorrow – but insists that will be the case for each of the remaining nine games this season.

Crewe Alexandra will start the game in fourth place – ahead of fifth-placed MK Dons courtesy of goal difference.

The winner could return to the automatic promotion places, in what is surely the division’s biggest game of Saturday.

But Bell said: “They are all big games and we have to have that mentality. The stakes are high and the players are well aware of that.

“We have to take games in isolation and not think about being on a run, or wins we have had away in the past.

“We have to implement what we want to do in this game, look at how we can hurt the opposition.”

MK Dons are unbeaten in their last six home games, as boss Mike Williamson targets an immediate return to League One.

Bell added: “They are a good footballing team and he sets them up well. They keep the ball well, look to progress through the pitch and have good technicians in the team.

“The Manager did brilliantly at Gateshead and he’s transferred that to MK quickly and the results speak for themselves.

“Any game away from home in this division is tough but we will be prepared well and, hopefully, it’s an exciting game.”

Crewe emerged as 3-1 victors when the sides met in September, thanks to goals from Conor Thomas, Courtney Baker-Richardson and Christopher Long.
