Cooney confident ahead of Forest Green test

31 March 2024

Ryan Cooney says Crewe Alexandra remain confident and focused on getting three points against Forest Green Rovers tomorrow (Monday, 3pm).

The defender felt that the 0-0 draw at Gillingham was a positive result, and says attention quickly switched to the next challenge.

He believes that, with the Alex fans behind them at Mornflake Stadium, they can take a step closer to the promotion dream.

Cooney said: “It’ll be a tough game like they all are, but we have to implement our style of play and build on the result at Gillingham and get the three points we need. The lads are confident.

“We are fighting for each other and we never give up. It doesn’t matter how we get over the line and, with six games to go, each three points is all that matters.

“If you don’t enjoy this you are in the wrong sport. No matter what, every game will have excitement and nerves but that can push you on. I think we have the ability to get promoted.

"The fans have been great all season. They’ve stuck with us and now hopefully we can put on a good show on Monday and go on to finish the season well.”

Crewe will start the game in sixth, while Forest Green are rock bottom after losing to Stockport on Friday.

Manager Lee Bell said: “We have to put a plan together regarding Forest Green; how we are going to stop them and also work out who is available on the medical side.

“We have to mindful that it is super-tight down there for them. It will be an intense game and we have to put a performance on, and concentrate on what we are going to do.”
