Boss: ‘Players still full of confidence’

22 March 2024

Lee Bell says Crewe Alexandra remain full of confidence as they head into tomorrow’s clash with AFC Wimbledon (Saturday, 3pm).

The Railwaymen have suffered a rare blip lately, with only one win in four outings, as injuries hit hard.

But the Manager says belief and spirit remain unaffected, as his fifth-placed side prepare for an important game at Mornflake Stadium.

Bell said: “Everyone is full of confidence and looking forward to the game. We’ve had some good chats with the players this week and the response has been great.

“You don’t have to motivate these players, they know what they are playing for and togetherness is one of our main strengths.

“We’ll have to prepare well for Wimbledon and make sure we don’t make mistakes like we did last weekend (at MK Dons).

“Wimbledon have been terrific this season and have been in and around it, similar to us. They are an energetic team, aggressive and have good players. They are a bit like us – they have a bit of everything and can do all sides of the game.”

Crewe are not the only team to have lacked consistency lately. All the teams at the top end of League Two have failed to win matches in recent weeks.

Bell added: “It’s the end of the season and a lot of teams are vying for the Play-Offs, and a small group of us going for automatic promotion.

“It’s really tight at the bottom end too, so it is very exciting and there will be twists and turns.

“This time last year we weren’t really playing for everything, so I assume that everyone prefers to be in the position we are in now.

“We will have a real good go at it and make sure we’ve got no regrets.”
