Matchday Guide|Morecambe (A)

23 January 2024

Crewe Alexandra will bid to record a fifth straight league victory for the first time in almost 30 years when they visit Morecambe tonight (7.45pm)

The Railwaymen last won five on the spin in February 1995, so Lee Bell and his men will hope to extend their perfect start to 2024.

The Opposition

Morecambe sit 13th in Sky Bet League Two after their super 2-1 win at MK Dons, which ended a five-game run without a win.

The Shrimps, unbeaten this year but without a home win in five, have made four January signings so far. Gerard Garner, Archie Mair, Joe Adams and Kayden Harrack all featured in Saturday’s success.

The Gaffer

Ged Brannan became Morecambe boss in late November, after the sacking of Derek Adams.

Brannan represented The Shrimps during his playing career during which he also played for Manchester City, Wigan Athletic and Accrington Stanley.

Fighting Talk

Lee Bell: “Morecambe are a good team and just had a really good result. They lost a couple of players that have been on loan but they’ve regathered themselves by the looks of it so we have to get back to work."

Ged Brannan: “Crewe are on a great run, they beat Barrow on Saturday who are also doing well. We know we are going to have to be at our best to get a result and I’m sure we will be."

Head to Head

Crewe have won the majority of clashes between the two teams with nine victories. Morecambe have won four games and the remaining three have been draws

A recent victory over the Shrimps came in December 2021, in a 2-1 away win for The Railwaymen. Chris Porter got the first and a long-range strike from Luke Murphy secured three points.

Match Officials

Ben Toner will be the man in the middle, with Kevin Mulraine and Callum Jones as his assistants. The fourth official will be Joe Simpson.

Toner has handed out 83 yellow cards and one red card in 17 matches this season.
