Bell: ‘I want the fans to enjoy it’

26 February 2024

Lee Bell says Crewe Alexandra staff and players must move quickly on – but he wants supporters to enjoy Saturday’s win at Notts County.

The Railwaymen moved back up into the automatic promotion places thanks to the 3-1 success at Meadow Lane.

Goals from Mickey Demetriou, Elliott Nevitt and Josh Austerfield earned a big three points on the road.

While players and staff are already looking ahead to the visit of Morecambe next weekend, the Manager hopes the 1,446 travelling fans make the most of it.

Bell said: “It’s a great three points but it is gone now for us, let’s get onto the next one.

“The supporters were brilliant and I want them to enjoy it. I thank them for the support they are giving – it's just tremendous.

“I hope the players can enjoy it but obviously they have work to do. It’s so hard for staff to enjoy it, because you are only as good as your last result, but we will try.

“It was a really solid away performance by the lads. They were playing a very good team but they executed what we were after in large parts.

“(Notts) were always going to have more of the ball but the boys were solid and excellent. I want the fans to enjoy it and the players too.

“If you have good lads who are good players, you’ve got a chance. They have to keep high standards and let’s see where we are in the next 12 games.”

Bell was pleased to welcome back Joel Tabiner, who had been out since October with an ankle injury, and also had praise for fellow sub Lewis Leigh.

He said: “It’s brilliant to have Tabs back; I think his lungs have burst and his legs gave up, but he’s back with us now.

“And Lewis Leigh – I know he’s been frustrated but he is going to be important to us. He has to trust me – the opportunities will come.”
