U21s Report | Crewe 1 Peterborough 1

23 October 2023

  • Allport on the scoresheet
  • 45 minutes for Finney
  • Big saves from Booth

Crewe Alexandra Under-21s shared a 1-1 draw with Peterborough United at Reaseheath on Monday.

Mike Jackson's side hit the front early on thanks to a well-taken Rhys Allport strike but Malik Mothersille earned the visitors a Professional Development League point.

It was a positive run-out for the likes of Charlie Finney, who captained the side and completed 45 minutes, as well as fellow first-teamers Lewis Billington, Calum Agius and Tom Booth.

Crewe started the game on top with some good chances falling to Max Woodcock and Agius.

And it was 1-0 on 12 minutes when Allport capitalised on a mistake and chipped the visiting keeper with aplomb.

Posh grew into the game and had the majority of chances before the interval, hitting the woodwork twice and being denied by a fine fingertip save from Booth.

But he could do nothing about the United equaliser after the restart when Mothersille followed in and tapped home.

That sparked the Alex back to life. Billington provided two clear-cut chances but Agius and Allport could not convert.

In the dying seconds, Joel Vincent delivered a great cross and Mohammed Jatta connected but he was denied by the keeper.

Crewe: Booth, Billington, Robinson, Senior, Finney (Sant), Nolan, Moore (Dancey), Agius, Woodcock (Vincent), Leader-Williams (Jatta), Allport.
