Crewe Alexandra moved into the second round of the Cheshire Senior Cup thanks to a 2-0 victory at Vauxhall Motors on Tuesday.

Goals from Max Woodcock and Aaron Rowe earned safe passage in the county cup despite a gallant effort from the hosts.

And first-teamers including Tom Booth, Lewis Billington, Charlie Colkett, Owen Lunt and Charlie Finney got valuable minutes under their belts.

Crewe took an early lead when Rowe found Woodcock and the striker dispatched a clinical finish.

And it was 2-0 on 15 minutes when the Alex launched a swift counter and Rowe composed himself before slotting home.

Lunt had to be replaced by Lewis Nolan on 24 minutes but the Alex protected their lead into the interval, thanks to a smart save from Booth and a brave block by Nathan Robinson.

After the restart Rhys Allport rattled the woodwork and was denied on a couple of occasions by the Vauxhall keeper but Crewe kept their clean sheet safe to earn a place in the next round.

A trip to Barnton awaits in the second round.
