Dicker: ‘We have to bounce back’

13 October 2023

Ryan Dicker says Crewe Alexandra must bounce back to winning ways after defeats in the league and cup.

The Railwaymen were six league games unbeaten before last weekend’s 4-2 defeat at Salford City.

And a much-changed team went down 3-0 to Wrexham in the Papa John’s Trophy in midweek.

Assistant Manager Dicker has urged the players to put those losses behind them – particularly the controversial nature of the reverse at Salford – and get back on track when Tranmere Rovers visit Mornflake Stadium (Saturday, 3pm).

He said: “We are going to lose games, but it is about how you are going to bounce back from losing.

“We don’t want to lose back-to-back games in the league so it is important we get three points and push ourselves right up there.

“We have to move on (from Salford) now because it has gone and there is nothing we can do now.

“We didn’t think the main decision went in our favour but we must manage those things as staff as players.

“We can’t allow the emotions of what happened to control what we do and what we try and implement.

“We should have dealt with the situation better but we are not making excuses - it is done and we move on.”

Crewe’s progress in recent weeks was highlighted by Lee Bell’s nomination for Manager of the Month for September.

Stockport’s Dave Challinor took the accolade, but Dicker added: “Those nominations come from the players and how they have been performing, which obviously reflects well.”
