Bell: ‘We have to use the ball better’

25 October 2023

Crewe Alexandra must learn their lessons from Tuesday’s defeat to League Two leaders Stockport County.

That’s according to boss Lee Bell, who was disappointed that his side did not stamp their own style of play on the game.

County won it through goals from Kyle Wootton and Isaac Olaofe, and Bell felt his men did not pass the ball enough.

He explained: “We've got to learn from this – we’ve got to play how we want to play.

“We did match them in terms of endeavour and workrate, which is a given from this team.

“But we have to do better with the football and we weren't able to do that for large parts.”

He added: “That's the first time some of our players have been in that type of game - a big game between two sides right at the top of the table.

“What we've got to do is draw on it and learn quickly from it.

“The next time it does happen, we will be in a better place as a group and then to deal with the situation.

“I’m disappointed because it's about winning football matches. We tried everything and got some good positions, but we didn’t make the right choices.”

“Now we have got to respond like we did after (losing to) Bradford and Salford when we go to Harrogate this weekend.”
