  • Cole continues fine form in front of goal
  • Crewe surrender two-goal lead
  • Defender Finbow nods in another

Crewe Alexandra Women surrendered a two-goal lead against second placed Tranmere Rovers in the dying moments of the game.

Emily Cole continued her fine form in front of goal before Shanice Finbow gave the Alex a two-goal cushion after heading in from a corner, but it didn't finish how they would've liked.

Laura Garner was a welcome return to the starting XI for Matt Fisher after missing the last six games through injury.

The North West Women's Regional League fixture started with a number of Crewe attacks.

Leah Collins managed to beat her opponent on the right hand side but her strike was palmed wide by Amelia Size in the Tranmere goal.

The Alex's pressure paid off when Collins forced a save from Size, who palmed the ball into the direction of Cole and she stabbed home from close range.

The away side came close to equalising just five minutes later, but they saw a headed effort crash against the woodwork.

Fisher will have been impressed with Crewe's set-pieces as they managed to double their lead through Finbow.

Garner's ball was whipped in towards the penalty spot and Finbow was on hand to nod in the second goal of the game.

Amanda Fallon could have finished the game off in the first half when she was played in, one-on-one with the Tranmere 'keeper, but she shot wide of the target.

Crewe didn't seem in any danger other than that early attempt that hit the upright, but the visitors bundled one in from a corner of their own.

On 75 minutes, a ball into the box was not defended and Anna Jones managed to tap the ball in from two yards.

This shocked the Reds and they struggled to contain Tranmere from the restart.

With Rovers on the up, the Alex managed to counter down the right. Collins managed to break free of her marker, but her final effort came back off the post and the rebound was just out of Cole's reach.

Then the heartbreak came for Matt Fisher's side. In the 93rd minute Hattie Bourne was adjudged to have brought down her opposite number on the edge of the area and Kiah Sullivan managed to curl an effort around the wall and into the top right corner to rescue a point.

Fisher said: "We were really good for large parts today but two poor decisions means we leave with a point which feels like a loss."

"The focus will be on working hard enough to turn those types of performances into wins."
