Practice paid off for O’Riordan

27 November 2023

Connor O’Riordan says practice paid off when his double helped Crewe Alexandra to a 3-2 win over Doncaster Rovers.

The big defender took his tally to three for the season with two smart finishes at Mornflake Stadium.

His second was a deftly-taken injury-time winner which lifted The Railwaymen to fourth in League Two.

O’Riordan said: “It’s stuff I practice - when we do shooting drills in training I take it seriously.

“I back myself to score when I get into position.

“Good teams find a way to win and that’s exactly what we have done. It was a massive win and I’m buzzing to get a couple of goals.

“There is just something about this team; we go to the end in every game and we believe that we will win late on.

“It wasn’t a great performance but it shows even when we are not at our best we are able to beat teams.

“When we are at our best we will blow teams away. We want to get promoted this season so results like that are big.”

Now O’Riordan and his teammates are preparing for a long trip to Sutton United (Tuesday, 7.45pm).

He added: “It’s a tough play to go but our away form is much better and that’s something we need to keep on top of.

“Anyone can beat anyone in this league and if we are not at 100% we will find it difficult. We need three points to stay where we want to be in the league.”
