Ryan Dicker has revealed that a free agent player is training as Crewe Alexandra ramp up efforts to bolster the squad.

The Railwaymen have a substantial number of players sidelined through injury, and the recruitment team have been working overtime to plug gaps.

Though transfers and loans are not permitted until January, clubs can sign unattached players.

Assistant Manager Dicker says the out-of-contract footballer has been working with the group at Reaseheath on a trial basis.

“We’ve got one that’s come through the door this week,” he said.

“He’s not played much football in the last few weeks so he’s catching up with some physical elements of the game.

“We will see how things develop over the next couple of weeks and where it goes.”

He added: “We are working on it but any new player has to be right for the team on and off the pitch – the right character and personality.

“We have to be confident in what they will add to the group we’ve already got. We have to think about how long they have been out for – is it due to injuries?

“And we also have to consider our finances. We have to balance things across the board and make sure it’s the right fit for everybody.”
