‘Minutes’ the key for loan duo, says gaffer

7 March 2023

It’s important that Charlie Finney and Billy Sass-Davies get plenty of games under their belts while out on loan.

That’s according to boss Lee Bell, who says it is vital the homegrown duo rack up some minutes at Chorley and Woking respectively.

Finney started his month at National League North side Chorley by playing 86 minutes of their 2-1 defeat at Spennymoor on Saturday.

And Sass-Davies came on as a late sub as National League side Woking strengthened their promotion bid with a 1-0 win at Yeovil.

Bell said: “Charlie has had a stop-start season with illness and injuries, and he has got a good loan move there. He will be playing in the position we see him playing in for our first team.

“We’ve had various conversations with Billy, and he needs to get some games. That's the reason we’ve let him out, and I hope he gets them. He wanted to go, and he wanted to go earlier in the season too.”

Sass-Davies, 23, has made 48 appearances for The Railwaymen since making his debut in 2017.

Finney, 19, has played nine times for the first team since making his bow last August.
