Lee Bell says everybody at Crewe Alexandra is hoping the hamstring injury Charlie Colkett sustained at Barnsley is not serious.

The midfielder, who missed large chucks of last season due to physical problems, has worked hard all summer to get into shape for the 2023-24 campaign.

But he limped out of the final friendly at Oakwell clutching his hamstring and looking distraught.

Bell said: “I didn’t see what happened, I just looked up and Charlie was on the floor. He’s got a tight hamstring but we don’t know anything more at this stage.

“He is just so unlucky with injuries. We have done everything we could to get him into this position where he feels good and is hitting good numbers going into the last pre-season game.

“Let’s keep our fingers crossed that it’s not too serious.”
