Lunt: 'Grimsby will be tough but we want three points'

3 February 2023

Crewe Alexandra will not take Grimsby Town lightly as they go in search of another positive result at Mornflake Stadium tomorrow (Saturday, 3pm).

That's according to Kenny Lunt, who says The Mariners are a dangerous team who will be aiming to record their second victory over Crewe this season.

Grimsby knocked the Alex out of the Carabao Cup in August in a resounding 4-0 scoreline.

Player Development Manager Lunt expects a very different game in League Two.

He said: "We found it tough at Grimsby in the cup but we rested players for that game, so this will be different.

"But we’ll give them the respect they deserve and hopefully we will be making it five unbeaten with a win.

"It will be a tough task, there isn’t a game in this league you think you can’t win, but there’s also no game that you think will be easy.

"We will approach it with the mindset that we need to deliver a strong performance to get the three points we want."

Manager Lee Bell has a lot of options to choose from after Forest Green loan man Sean Robertson became his fifth addition of the transfer window, right on deadline.

The bench was arguably the strongest it has been this term for the game against Stockport in midweek, with the likes of captain Luke Offord and midfielder Tariq Uwakwe among the subs.

Lunt added: "Joel Tabiner couldn’t even get on the bench, and we’ve not been in that type of situation with such a strong matchday squad.

"It’s good for competition, the lads will have to earn their places. There’s a danger players get a bit comfortable when a squad isn’t so strong, but there are good options in every position here."
