White backs Reds to bounce back against Bristol

11 December 2023

Joe White believes Crewe Alexandra players will relish the opportunity to get back on the pitch quickly and erase the disappointment of a defeat at Grimsby Town.

The Railwaymen went down 2-1 at Blundell Park on Saturday – their first loss in eight matches.

But they have little time to dwell on it as Bristol Rovers visit in the FA Cup on Tuesday (7.45pm).

White, who got the Alex goal in Cleethorpes, said: “Having a game is the best thing that can happen; Tuesday is right round the corner so we have a short time to recover and then go again.

“We have done well against higher opposition already this season so we’ll go into the game full of belief and we need to play with more energy.

“It was a tough game (against Grimsby) – they have a new Manager and came out quick and we started slow.

“We were below-par all game but we move on and we need a reaction. We can’t let it affect us because we have so many games coming up.”

White, on loan from Newcastle, shrugged off an ankle injury to make the bench at Grimsby. He impressed in the second half and volleyed his second for the club.

He added: “I had a massive ankle and I thought I was going to miss the game but I persuaded Dan (Head Physio Dan Thorpe) to try to rush me back. It was sore but I’ll be fine for Tuesday.”
