Crewe Alexandra will review footage of Luke Offord’s sending off before deciding whether to appeal the decision.
The skipper was given his marching orders after the referee adjudged that he had fouled Brad Hills in the 80th minute of the 3-3 draw with Accrington at Mornflake Stadium.
Manager Lee Bell said: “I’m not sure what the rule is. I think if he made a genuine attempt to get the ball it’s not a red card. I’m lost with the rule.
“I don’t know if he got a touch – if he got a touch on the ball we will appeal it. We will have a good look at it. The bits of play that led up to the red card were avoidable - but the boys were trying to play.”
