Boss: ‘I’m not happy and the players know that’

Lee Bell pulled no punches in his assessment of Crewe Alexandra’s FA Cup exit at the hands of Bristol Rovers.

The Manager was angry at the manner of the goals conceded in the 4-2 Second Round reverse at Mornflake Stadium.

Bell said: “It was really poor in the first half in terms of the goals we conceded – not in general play – and you can go back through the last three or four games now and look at the goals we have conceded.

“I’m bitterly disappointed. Not happy. Maybe we are just thinking we are going to outgun teams? But you can’t give a team from a league above you a four-goal start.

"I had a really good feeling going into the game but the goals we conceded were schoolboy.

“I won’t repeat what I’ve said (in the dressing room) but I am not happy and the players know that. If any of them have got an issue with that I’ve told them to come and see me.

“That group of players is too good, and we’ve done too much work, to allow things like that to happen.

"I took accountability for (the defeat at Grimsby), in terms of the formation we played and I told the players that. But it’s their turn now.”
