Friday clash just the ticket to win more fans - Bell

20 December 2023

Lee Bell says Friday night’s clash with Barrow is an opportunity to win more fans for Crewe Alexandra.

A bumper gate is expected after the Club slashed admission prices to £10 for adults and £5 for under 18s, while children 11 and under will enter Mornflake Stadium free (kick-off 7.45pm).

It promises to be an exciting game, with the fifth-placed Railwaymen aiming to topple second-placed Barrow on an atmospheric occasion under the lights.

Bell hopes that his free-scoring side can make a good impression on first-time or occasional spectators.

He said: “We are looking forward to it. It’s great what the Club have done to get more fans in and it looks like the fans have responded to that in numbers.

“It’ll be a good occasion – I love night games and it will be two good teams facing each other.

“The crowds are coming because we’ve done well this season and we want more games in front of good crowds – and we’ll only get that by picking up more wins.

“I hope we deliver a good performance so that some of those fans come back. I’m confident they will be entertained.”

The visit of Barrow kicks off a packed festive schedule which will see Crewe also host Bradford City on Monday, January 1; along with trips to Walsall (Boxing Day) and Newport (Friday, December 29).

Bell added: “We just have to make sure the players are ready for the games. We won’t be able to do general training sessions – it'll all just be match prep. It’s up to us to give them the right information on each opponent in the tight turnarounds.

“It can be a really good time of year because you can go on a run, or get a quick opportunity to bounce back. The fans come out at Christmas but it’s not added pressure – that's what we want.”
