Delighted boss reflects on Barrow victory

7 April 2023

Lee Bell felt Crewe Alexandra’s performance against Barrow 'had a bit of everything’.

Goals from Dan Agyei (2) and Christopher Long earned a 3-0 victory at Mornflake Stadium on Good Friday.

Afterwards, Manager Bell said: “Winning the game puts a smile on everybody’s faces.

“It was a really good performance with a little bit of everything; grit and determination to see it out, and moments of good passages of play. I think we fully deserved the win.

“We’ve been able to put some really good work into the players since the schedule eased a bit, and we’ve got some players back from injury, which helps.

“We’ve got a strong squad now and we want to strive forward, we don’t want to take it easy. Everyone below us has picked up points, and the gap to the bottom is still the same. We need to get as high up the league as we can.

Bell was full of praise for top-scorer Agyei, who showed great composure to convert two penaalties and take his tally to 14 for the season.

He added: “For the first penalty, if one of our players does that, I’ve got no complaints.

“For the second, it was a great Conor Thomas switch of play and Dan just teased his man in and took it round him.

“He took two good penalties under pressure. He is very good at it, really cool. Like most teams, they tried everything to put him off, and I think they went over the mark. But Dan stuck them away really well.”
