Preview| Tranmere (A)

14 October 2022

Crewe Alexandra travel to face Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park on Friday (7:45pm).

Alex Morris’s side could move to 10th in the table with a win, but know a tough task awaits against an in-form Tranmere side.

The Opposition

Tranmere sit 12th in League Two, having endured a mixed start to their campaign. But they have won their last four encounters – most recently a 2-0 away victory against Sutton United.

Micky Mellon’s side are one of the in-form sides in the division, and haven't conceded a goal in 375 minutes of league action.

The Gaffer

Micky Mellon took charge of Rovers for a second spell in June 2021, following a mixed spell in his native Scotland as manager of Dundee United.

The Paisley-born boss will be best remembered by the Prenton Park faithful for guiding the club from the National League to League One in consecutive Play-Off final victories between 2017 and 2019.

Team News

The Alex remain without Christopher Long (ankle), Callum Ainley (shoulder), Charlie Colkett (hamstring), Lachlan Brook (ankle), and Oliver Finney (ankle) remain doubts.

Tranmere will be missing Joel Mumbongo, Charlie Jolley, Luke Robinson and Kyle Jameson, with Tom Davies facing a late fitness test before the fixture.

Head-to-Head

Tranmere hold the upper-hand in this fixture, winning 59 of the meetings compared to the Alex’s 45 victories – with 33 draws between the sides.

Although the Railwaymen have had better fortune in their last five outings, Rovers ran out 1-0 winners in their last meeting, a 1-0 win at Prenton Park in March 2019.

Officials

Simon Mather will take charge, having last refereed an Alex fixture in April 2022, a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town at the Mornflake stadium.

He will be assisted by Conor Brown and Hristo Karaivanov, with Lewis Smith appointed as fourth official.
