Morris: "We Will Find The Solutions To Make Us Improve Goals For And Against

9 May 2022

83 conceded and only 37 scored, Boss knows where vast improvement is needed for successful season.

Alex Morris says the goals for and again column has to dramatically improve if we are to mount a serious push for promotion next season. The Alex ended their stay in League One by conceding 83 goals and only Morecambe conceded more with 88.

Only Gillingham scored less goals than Crewe with the Alex scoring two more than the Gills who had the lowest return on 35. Neil Harris' side were also relegated.

The Crewe Alexandra manager will also use the pre-season to make sure his players are fitter and can last games better after seeing his side concede two late goals on the final day of the season at Lincoln.

Morris told the club’s official website: “We have conceded too many goals over the course of the season and not scored enough and when that happens you don’t win enough football matches.

“We had looked more secure in the last four games and didn’t look like conceding as many but we conceded two late goals at Lincoln, one from a set-play, and that is something we will work on.

“Maybe we couldn’t quite keep it up in the fourth game in the final stages and again that is something we will look at and improve upon. We will need to be fitter and be more consistent and incessant with it.

He added: “There are plenty of positives to work on and the players have really bought into what we want to do and what we are looking to implement in those few weeks we have had but we are not daft, we know there is a lot to do and we will work together to find solutions to the things we are not so good at.”
