First Year Pros Player Profile: Sean Lawton

23 May 2022

Crewe Alexandra can confirm Sean Lawton has signed his first professional papers with the Football Club.

The full-back, who turned 18 in September, has showed enough star potential to train full-time with the first-team before being awarded his professional debut against AFC Sunderland.

Whilst he’s focused on striking a chord with the coaches at Crewe, he’s also got a budding music career up his sleeve!

Here's some information from Head of Coaching, Michael Jackson, on the Crewe youngster.

He said: “He has good technical ability. He can get forward, physically he has a lot more to come even though he is in decent physical shape now. He’s coming out of the pack a little bit and he has got every chance.”

Michael says the biggest challenge for Sean, who is from Crewe and arrived as an U12, is to push himself forward and believe in himself more.

He added: “He’s not had it easy. He’s quite quiet and he’s in a group full of big characters. But he’s not shied away from it, he’s embraced the challenge and he has improved year on year to the point he has been training with the first team and been involved in first team matches during pre-season.

“He’s showing more of a steely attitude which is what he will need. He has got all the ability - football-wise he will be good enough. He has to believe in himself,  back himself and show that he’s a good player - because he is a good player!

“It’ll come down to how much he wants it, how much he believes in himself. Has he got that competitive edge? Is he really going to compete and want it? Everyone at this club believes in Sean but it is down to him now.”
