Morris: "We Have Plenty Of Names And Contacts From Under-23s Football"

2 June 2022

Alex Morris believes that his past experience of managing the club’s Under-23 and Under-18 sides has provided him with knowledge of potential targets for his Crewe Alexandra squad.

The Alex boss is focussing on adding permanent transfers to his plans after already moving quickly to secure the services of Kelvin Mellor, Conor Thomas and Courtney Baker-Richardson – but he has not ruled out bringing in younger players from that level of football if he feels it will his side for the forthcoming season.

Morris told the club’s official website: “I have been involved with the first team here for six, seven years now with the coaching, so I am used to that environment but I also took the Under-23s and before that the Under-18s.

“We have that knowledge of that level of football. Lee Bell was involved in that too and Glyn has an extensive knowledge of Under-23 football. He is always out watching games and players. There are plenty of names to work with and we are always learning new names and watching clips of young players.

"We have contacts in the game who can perhaps help us or tell us about the characters of those players.

“We have been immersed in that for some time so if some good ones are made available, whether that is because they are released or available for loan then we already know a lot about them and what they could potentially offer us.

“All those details matter in the end and you are to be clinical in your recruitments and make sure you do everything you can to bring the right player and the right character into the club.”
