'Colkett Can Become A Real Key Player For Us'

Morris on the importance of getting midfielder Colkett over the line.

Crewe Alexandra manager Alex Morris believes that the trust and belief he will instil into his latest signing, Charlie Colkett, will help the former Chelsea youngster recapture his best form.

Morris has made Colkett his fourth permanent signing of a busy start to the summer transfer window and he wants the midfield playmaker to become a key player for next season – something he may not have experienced at previous clubs.

Morris said of the talented 25-year-old: “I think the fact that we have promised him games if he performs to the levels we expect of him and the belief we have shown in him all helped in his decision to sign for us.

“I cannot speak for him nor would I, but I believe that he has probably hasn’t had that trust and belief coming from the manager before. We were very keen to get him and every player wants to be desired and courted.

“They want to know they are appreciated and that they can become a key player for you. We feel that with Charlie because he is a good player and we will do everything we can to improve him further.

“He is at a good age, he is only 25 and that is a chance for him to express himself and become an important player for our team. I think he will relish that challenge.

“I am sure that those factors and the facilities and the environment he we want to build here is all there for him and that is what perhaps swung it in our favour for him to sign.”
