Charlton Have Improved Again Under Jackson

12 January 2022

Alex aim to get back to winning ways at home against improved Addicks

David Artell appreciates that tonight’s visitors to Mornflake Stadium have greatly improved under their new manager Johnnie Jackson. They have won an impressive 10 of his 17 games in charge, losing just five to turn their season around.

For whatever reason, things didn’t quite work out for Charlton Athletic under the guidance of their former manager, the vastly experienced, Nigel Adkins, but after turning things around as caretaker, Jackson thoroughly deserved the post on a permanent basis.

Crewe lost 2-0 at the Valley in the first month of the season and Artell believes that they have become a really good side under Jackson.

Ahead of our re-arranged encounter this evening, Artell told us: “Charlton are a good and they have improved even more with Johnnie (Jackson) as their new manager. He did very well when he was placed in charge after Nigel left and he has carried that on to get the job on a permanent basis.

“They have a good squad and whoever they select makes it a good team. It will be a tough test, they don’t concede many goals under Jonnie and have become tougher to beat. They have certainly tightened up and conceded 8 goals in about 17 games.

“Johnnie has come in and done a great job and they are looking up the table now. They were impressive against Norwich in the FA Cup and we know it will be another test but if we play to our capabilities then we know that we can give anyone a game at this level.

“It is at our place and it is a level playing field and we have to try and take advantage of that and get the three points.”
