Bell:"The Incentive Has To Be There"

21 April 2022

Interim assistant manager says the objective is to back to places like Hillsborough Stadium

Lee Bell says the experience of playing at Hillsborough on Tuesday evening should provide extra motivation to have a good season again next year.

Bell says that the experience of playing in front of almost 23,000 spectators should provide extra motivation to get back to League One as soon as possible.

Crewe narrowly lost the game 1-0 thanks to Lee Gregory’s penalty in the opening minutes of the second half and Bell believes the incentive has to be there going into a season back in League Two.

Bell told the club’s official website: “It is great to play at stadiums like Hillsbrough but we want that to be a regular occurrence again. We won’t be doing that next season so the incentive has to be there to get back to these type of stadiums and to play against big clubs and good players. That is what we all want and will work hard to bring back to Crewe.

“We want to be playing this calibre of club and to do more often and when we do, we want the players to embrace it and go to these places and meet it head on and get on the ball more.

“We did that in patches at Sheffield Wednesday but not enough. We didn’t create enough chances for our liking and that is something we will work hard on.”
