Artell: "We Have Make Our Key Players More Effective"

16 September 2021

David Artell says the aim is to make his most effective players even more effective in games. The Alex boss recently stated that he feels that his side set down a marker with the performance away at Shrewsbury last weekend and he wants them to take that positivity into Saturday’s home game against Burton Albion.

Crewe created enough good chances at the New Meadow to have won the game but had to settle for a point after falling behind. Mikael Mandron’s tidy finish levelled things up just before half-time.

Ahead of this weekend’s game against the Brewers, the manager told us: “The players will see the benefit of the work we have done with them over these last two weeks.

“We have had to bring in more players than usual for various reasons and it takes a bit of time for them to gel. What we have to do now is make our more effective players more effective in games.

“We need them to understand the roles and what we expect of them and quickly. We have to make sure they are as effective as they can be.

“I don’t necessary mean our forward players either but also defensively with the new system we have played already this season. There is still a lot of work to do on the front but we can see the improvement.

“We showed in patches against Shrewsbury that we can do it, so we have to continue in that vein.”
