'Rio Can Play Both Sides And Is On His Way To Becoming An Excellent Player For Us'

27 October 2021

Boss says Adebisi knows that his path is leading to eventual step up.

David Artell says that Rio Adebisi has the ability and versatility to play in various positions. The Crewe youngster penned a new deal to take him through to the summer of 2024 and has already played in both full-back positions in his early career and impressed in a midfield role in a pre-season friendly against Aston Villa before the start of the new campaign.

Adebisi has played in almost every position coming through the club’s renowned Academy and Artell believes that he has all the credentials to become an excellent player for us before going on to play at a higher level.

Artell told the club’s official website: “Rio can play either side and he has played in midfield as well. He has two great feet and he can switch sides easily. On Saturday at Wycombe he played right back and he put in an outstanding cross with his right foot. It was the ball of the game and showed his quality.

“He did fantastically well at right back for us last season when Perry (Ng) moved on and he has moved over to his preferred left hand side for most of this season – but it is great for me as a manager to know that he play can both sides and we don’t have to worry.

The boss added: “Rio has agreed to sign his contract because he believes in us as a club and me as a manager which is important. He knows that this club always has his best interest at heart.

“He also has the same agent as Charlie (Kirk) and he can see how that was handled. His agent was very good over Charlie and has the belief in what we do as a football club. Rio buys into that and knows that when the time is right and he is ready then we will get him on the right path.”
