David Artell was certainly encouraged by his side’s overall performance at Wycombe Wanderers at the weekend. The returning Tom Lowery looked to have secured us a deserved point with an equaliser on 77 minutes, only for Wycombe to grab a dramatic late winner in the 7th minute of stoppage time.
It was cruel on the Alex, who had put bodies on the line all afternoon to protect our goal and point but Artell was pleased with the reaction of his players after they bounced back from that 3-0 defeat at Fleetwood the week before.
Artell told the club’s official website: “I don’t think we deserved it but that’s football. I just said to the players afterwards that if they play like that every week then we will be fine. We won’t lose many and we will certainly win some as well while we are at it.
“The players knew they have performed well and deserved a least a point. They are highly perceptive and you cannot kid them on. They know when they have played to the level and when they don’t.
“So do the supporters. They had every right to have a go last week at Fleetwood but they stayed behind to clap the players off because they had seen the players give everything they had and put in a performance.
“Now we have to take that level into the next game and the one after that.”
