Evans' Gills Are Always Effective At What They Do

17 November 2021

Bos says Crewe will have to stand up to Gillingham's style and then be better than them in possession.

David Artell expects nothing other than a really competitive encounter with Steve Evans’ Gillingham this weekend. The Gills did a league double over the Alex last season, winning 4-1 at their Priestfield Stadium and somehow coming away with a 1-0 win from their visit to Crewe. The Railwaymen dominated the game and had numerous chances but lost 1-0 thanks to goal from their second half substitute John Akinde.

Artell appreciates that his Crewe team will have to match and prevent them from loading our box.

He told us: “Gillingham are always effective at what they do. There will be no real surprises coming from them and what they want to do but we have to stop them. We have to match them, stand up to them and then be better than them.

“We have had them watched a few times. I went to see them play Wycombe and you could see how effective they can be when they are given the chance. It will be another tough game. We know that but we have to start winning games as quickly as possible.

“We are at home and we have to take advantage of that.”
