Artell: "It Was Just Important To Win"

9 November 2021

David Artell was pleased to see his Crewe Alexandra side get back to winning ways with a comfortable 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers Under-21s. Two goals from Mikael Mandron set us on the way with Joe Robbins added a third with just over 10 minutes remaining.

Crewe had other opportunities to score more goals but Artell was still pleased with a number of performances on the night. The Alex boss told us: “It was important to win the game. We needed a win and we had chances to score more goals than we did, but the most important thing was that we won the game and we had some good performances.

“The belief was there and it was good to see. Now we hope that it gives us a lift and we can take that forward. There were a lot of positives to take from the performance and as a manager you want food for thought.

“As a forward, you want to score goals and Mikael has scored two goals tonight and you cannot ask more than that. Forwards want to be scoring goals and Mikael has scored two, so hopefully that will kick start some more from him.

“Joe has scored on his debut and that was a good finish as well, so that is something he will remember from his debut for the first team.

“When the draw was made, we had two other League One sides and this Wolves side, we have managed to win them all, so that is a real positive as well. We will see who we get in the next round and hopefully we can do well in this competition and take that into our league form.”
