David Artell believes there is real scope for Crewe Alexandra to improve next season.

The Alex boss was pleased that our 3-2 win over Shrewsbury on the final day of the season lifted us into the top half of the table but the climax of the campaign was tinged with disappointment after we missed out on a genuine push for a play-off place.

Crewe finished 8 points off a play-off place and Artell says that a number of dropped points proved costly in the end. Artell is hoping that it has been a lesson learnt on our return to League One.

The Alex boss told the club’s official website:  “I said in the week in the build up to the Shrewsbury game that it was a missed opportunity. From here, we have to improve and go on.

“We have to go on and have the mindset that we don’t have those half an hour lapses that we saw against Shrewsbury and let a lead slip. We can get even better and that has got to be the challenge next season.”
