Boss says World Cup games will do defender good in readiness for pre-season

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says it can only benefit defender Donervon Daniels from getting more game time with his national team.

Daniels is currently involved with Montserrat for their World Cup qualifiers and after missing a large chuck of last season with injury, Artell feels that the former West Bromwich Albion, Blackpool and Wigan Athletic defender will benefit from keeping himself fully fit over the summer.

Artell told crewealex.net: “Donervon missed a large chunk of last season through injury, so he has to stay fit.

“For him to get some game time with Montserrat should only benefit him for the pre-season. If he can play some games and trains then that is a good step. If he gets a niggle then we will have to address that.

“Donervon has to hit the ground running this season. It is a big year for him and he has to remain fit for as long as he can. He has got to get as many games under his belt as possible because we are going to need him.”
