'No Decision Made On Captain's Armband'

28 July 2021

Boss says Murph has been as good as anyone in pre-season but no decision been made yet.

David Artell says that he has not made a decision on who will be his permanent captain when the serious stuff kicks off again against Cheltenham Town on 7th August.

The Crewe boss says there are a few contenders for the armband following the departure of Harry Pickering this summer but it is not at the top of his priority list at the moment.

The likes of Luke Murphy, Donervon Daniels, Oli Finney have all taken turns in captaining the club in pre-season.

Artell told crewealex.net: “It is not something we have discussed yet and no decision has been made.

“There will be a few contenders and Murph has had it over the last few games and he is as good as anybody.

“It may that we have three. We had three when I was here as a player, with me, Belly and Westy .

“It is a big thing on my part? Not particularly, but I know it is important and I will get round to making a decision.

The boss added: “It is not at the top of my priority list at the moment but I will discuss it with the staff and will come to a decision when it does become top of my list.”
