Wood Aiming For More Chances After Impressive Debut

22 February 2021

Crewe Alexandra’s on-loan defender, Nathan Wood, was pleased to make his debut for the club on Saturday - but he left the County Ground in despondent mood after seeing us lose the game deep into stoppage time.

Wood was preferred to Olly Lancashire at the heart of the Crewe defence and the teenager from Middlesbrough looked assured on his first outing for us.

The England Youth International, who is with us until the end of the season told the club’s official website: “It was a tough game to lose because I think we didn’t deserve to. We dominated most of the game and had a lot of chances but we didn’t take them.

“We know we should have put the game to bed early. To lose in the last minute is tough but it is even more so when you think you deserved to win the game.

“It is something to learn from and I know as a defender we have to be tighter at the back, so if things are not going in for us up the front, we can still be tight at the back and not concede. That is something to improve on. It is about learning and building on from there.

“I’ve come to Crewe to gain experience and play as many games as I can, but I also want to win. As soon as I came in, I could see that the club was an ambitious one and the ultimate aim is to get back into the Championship. If I could contribute to that then that would be great.

Nathan added: “I’ve settled in really well. Stephen Walker is here and he helps me a lot with the area but the staff are all good and it is a great bunch of lads. I am excited to be here and hopefully I can play a lot more games whilst I am here and help the team.
