Williams: "A Dream Since I Was A Kid In The Academy To Make My Debut"

10 December 2021

Teenager Zac Williams feels he has settled in quickly to the first team and appreciates that the chance he has been given at a young age. The 17-year-old Welsh Youth International has looked like a senior professional since making his debut at the level and the defender believes that with his confidence growing all the time, he can bring his usual game where he likes to step out with the ball.

Williams has fitted into the back three perfectly and he admits that having fellow Academy graduates alongside him has only helped in his rapid emergence.

Williams, who will hoping to make his seventh appearance for the first-team this weekend against Sheffield Wednesday told the club’s official website: “It has been my dream since I was a kid to play for the first team, so for it to come so early for me, I cannot ask for anymore.

“I’ve been here since the age of 7 and come through the Academy, so I cannot thank the coaches enough for all they did for me. They have all helped me become the player I am today and I couldn’t have asked for a better football education.

“When you see the players Crewe have produced, the likes of Nick Powell, Westy and even Murph, who I get to play with now in the team and see what they have achieved , it just spurs you on.

“I must admit that I was a bit nervous on my debut. I walked out and there were 13,000 fans at Bolton and my legs turned to a jelly a bit, but once I got onto the pitch I was fine. Other than the result, it was a good night for me and my family were very proud.

“It was different at home against Gillingham. The fans were behind us and it gave me the confidence to play like I do for the Under-18s and Under-23s. With that support there, I felt a bit more comfortable and stepped out with the ball more.

“It is different than Under-23s, because if it faster and the higher intensity but I’ve enjoyed it. It has been good to play alongside Billy (Sass-Davies) and Offord and Rio is left-back. I know them from the Academy and they help me and allow me to play my game. “
