Boss previews New Years' Day trip to the Pirelli Stadium

David Artell says that ‘Burton Albion are a beacon of sustainability when it comes to running a Football Club’.

The Alex boss has compared Burton favourably with his own club when it comes to the management at the top level and the work ethic of the staff.

Crewe kick off 2022 with a tough assignment at the Pirelli Stadium and Artell says it is important to keep that momentum going after winning that first away game of the season at Morecambe in mid-week.

Ahead of our New Years’ Day fixture, Artell said of the Brewers: “What a terrific example Burton are of running a sustainable football club. They are very similar to us and I have met their chairman Ben Robinson, on some courses and he is a very smart man and a really humble guy.

“They have been a league club for a lot of years now and that is based on the stability and good management from Ben and the board of directors there. They know how to run a football club like we do. I think we are two clubs who are beacons of sustainability in the EFL.

“I cannot speak highly enough of their achievements and they obviously have a really experienced manager in Jimmy (Floyd Hasslebaink). His teams are always well organised and set up really well and they will present a different challenge to Morecambe.

“It is a tough place to go and it took a cracker of a goal from Owen (Dale) to get something last season.

The Alex boss added: “It will be a difficult test because they have good players. It will be a good game as well and one we can look forward to.”
