Artell Hoping For Third Time Lucky

28 December 2021

We are in a position to play says Alex boss

David Artell says that his Crewe Alexandra side are raring to play football again after 18 days passed without a fixture due to other clubs suffering Covid outbreaks. The Alex boss is keeping his fingers firmly crossed that it is third time lucky for our mid-week fixture against Morecambe to take place.

The Railwaymen travel to the manager’s former club looking to record that first away win of the season in League One.

He told us: “There has been no further restrictions introduced by the EFL nor the government, so that is a positive. I think it is a positive only if we come out of it. If they introduced more restrictions for a week, two weeks or a month or whatever it may be and we come out of it, I would welcome that too.

“I am not a scientist and there must be a reason behind it, although I do believe that the Prime Minister is not in a good position to restrict anyone after what he and others have done in his government over the last 18 months.

“I am not getting political but I don’t follow the restrictions because the Prime Minister tells me to, I do it to protect myself and others.

“I am hoping that we can get back to playing some football again. We are in a position to play. We were in a position to play Gillingham and we were in a position to play Wigan, so we are all hoping it is third time lucky.”
