Artell: "Saturday's Draw Was The Story Of Our Season Again"

26 April 2021

David Artell says that Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Rochdale was the ‘story of our season’. Crewe Alexandra looked to have won the game when Charlie Kirk covered the rebound from his own penalty in the final minute – only for Dale to snatch a late draw thanks to Matty Done’s well taken equaliser deep into stoppage time.

A disappointed Artell says that his side have dropped too many points like that this season on our return to League One.

The Alex boss said: “It is never just one thing but the game on Saturday was the story of our season. We dropped more points late on when it looked as though we had just done enough to win it.

“I said after the game that I didn’t think either team deserved to win the game but for me it was another two points with the position we found ourselves in. We have dropped four points against Rochdale over the two games and I don’t think anyone will change my mind over that.

He added: “We have to be more in control in games and that is something we have to improve on. We had more control of games in League Two and that helped us dominate the last 20 minutes of games. It is tougher in League One and that hasn’t happened as much, so it is something we can work on.”
