Boss: "Don't Read Too Much Into Oxford's Defeat At Gilllingham"

Alex boss still impressed by Karl Robinson's U's in wake of unjust defeat at Gillingham.

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell believes that not too much should be read into Oxford United’s 3-1 defeat at Gillingham on Saturday nor the fact that they are currently fourth from bottom of League One.

Last season’s play-off finalists are still an excellent side and didn’t deserve to lose to the Gills at the weekend according to the Alex boss.

Artell told the club’s official website: “Oxford are a good side and we have watched their game at Gillingham on Saturday. There is no way they deserved to lose that game.

“They were the better side but they lost 3-1. It was a travesty really, so we are not reading anything into that result or their current league position.

“They reached the play-off final last season and could be in the Championship now, so we know what threats they pose to any side at this level.

“If they play like they did at Gillingham and I am being honest here, they will win more football matches than they lose. The result didn’t tell the story of that game.

“If we play as well as we did on Saturday (against Wigan) then the same applies to us. We have been improving with every game and we will have to do the same again.”
