Artell: "All We Can Do Is Prepare For Wigan As Normally As Possible"

7 October 2020

David Artell says it has ‘to be business as usual’ as he prepares for Saturday’s home game against Wigan Athletic. The Alex boss has told the club’s official website that he has not heard anything from the EFL in relation to our weekend fixture.

The Crewe Alexandra squad and staff have now been tested and those four with a positive test are in self-isolation. Crewe have returned to training in readiness for Saturday’s home game.

David told crewealex.net: “We have not heard anything yet in regards to the Wigan game. We are cracking on with training and isolated those who have come back with a positive test.

“I cannot see any reason why the game cannot take place but the decision will rest with the EFL. He have provided the test results and made clear all the procedures we have in place.

“The fixtures are already congested and we don’t have that many Tuesday night’s free, so I am sure the EFL won’t want too many games postponed.

“It is no one’s fault. It is going to happen and we are not the only club to have suffered with this. I think we acted responsibly by telling Oxford and with this virus, it doesn’t matter if it happens on Saturday morning, an hour before kick-off or 10 minutes before kick-off, the right decisions have to be made because the safety of everyone is paramount.”
