Boss Says Derisory Offers On Deadline Day Were Way Off The Mark

Boss says low offers were not even considered on transfer deadline day

David Artell has told the club’s official website that he didn’t plan for a late afternoon on transfer deadline day. There was no further movement either in or out at the Football Club and the 5pm deadline passed without any more arrivals or departures.

The Alex boss has revealed that the club did receive some ‘derisory’ offers for some our assets – but those bids were not considered at board level.

Artell told crewealex.net: “I didn’t plan for a late one on Friday. Some deadline days, they become really long days but I didn’t envisage much happening in this one.

“They can be long because you are trying to get someone in or someone comes in for one of yours but Friday was nothing like that.

“We had a couple of enquires for one or two but they may well have written the bids on a back of a fag packet. They were derisory to say the least.

“I can see why they did it because of what is happening in the market with the pandemic but they didn’t merit a response really. I cannot knock them for trying but they were never going to be considered. They must thing that this club is struggling financially, and that is not the case at all.

The boss added: “Although we are always open for business here, no-one was going to leave on the cheap. I have stated that all along and they are here and we crack on.”
