Artell: "Nathan's Luton Set The Standard For This Division"

24 September 2019

David Artell says that Nathan Jones’ Luton Town side of 2017/18 set the standard for this division and he says that is a target his team have to try and emulate. Jones’ side finished runners-up to Champions Accrington Stanley but went on to win promotion back to the Championship the following season.

Of course, Jones moved on to our neighbours Stoke City and the legendary figure Mick Hartford completed the back-to-back promotions – but it was the solidness of Jones’ Luton side that sticks in Artell’s mind.

The Alex boss told crewealex.net: “We have been a work in progress over the last few seasons and we have to make sure that the standards are maintained.

“We are not there yet by a long way. We are not as dominate as Luton were a few years back at this level. They set the barometer that year and Nathan (Jones) build a very good Luton team.

“I know he has had a bit of a tough time of it at Stoke City but he had a terrific team at Luton. They are the standard we are trying to reach and what we are working towards.”
