Artell: "Nice To Be Top But It Counts For Little At This Stage"

Nothing gained for being top after 13 games

David Artell is pleased that his Crewe Alexandra side have reached the top of the league, but he isn’t one for getting carried away.

The Railwaymen reached the summit with a splendid 4-2 win at Carlisle United at the weekend but the Alex boss says that league position is irrelevant at this stage of the season.

Artell told the club’s official website: “It is nice to be top of the league. I said last week when we were fourth that we could be three places better off and that performances could improve and we managed to get both at Carlisle.

“We had a 20 minute spell in that game though where we stopped doing what had made us successful in the first half, so there is room for improvement there but we changed a few things and regained control.

“Now we have to take that into Saturday against Swindon, which will be another tough game.

He added: “There is no one getting carried away. It doesn’t mean too much to be top after 13 games. I don’t want to be negative or pessimistic about it because the players have made a terrific start but that is all it is. No-one remembers who was top of the league after 13 games last season.”
