Match Preview: Alex Face Accrington In The FA Cup

8 November 2019

Despite last week’s loss to Port Vale, Crewe Alexandra bounced back with a penalty shootout win over Everton Under 23’s in the Leasing.com Trophy on Tuesday.

The win at Gresty Road on Tuesday night means that Dave Artell’s side have only tasted defeat once in the last 10 games.

The Alex have also won six of those 10 matches, leaving them fourth in the SkyBet League Two table after 16 games.

Saturday’s opposition, Accrington Stanley, currently sit 19th in SkyBet League One with 15 points from 16 matches.

John Coleman’s side were winless after their first five games of the season, but now haven’t lost in the last two matches after last weekend’s goalless draw against Coventry City.

Date: Saturday 09 November 2019

Competition: Emirates FA Cup

Venue: Crown Ground

Referee: Neil Hair

Previous Meeting at Host Club: Accrington 1-0 Crewe (February 2018)

Team news:

Crewe: Eddie Nolan has recovered from an ankle injury against Everton Under 23’s in mid-week, meaning Dave Artell has no new injuries ahead of the trip to Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

Daniel Powell and Olly Lancashire remain side-lined, but new signing Christian Mbulu made his full debut on Tuesday night so he could be set to feature again tomorrow.

Port Vale: John Coleman’s side are boosted by the return of defender Ross Sykes returns after a three-game ban, but Zaine Francis-Angol is still unavailable and striker Courtney Baker-Richardson is also a doubt for tomorrow’s match.
