Boss hails Callum's influential performance in draw with Everton youngsters

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell was pleased with the contribution of Callum Ainley against Everton Under-21s last night. Ainley, who also started a league game for the first time against Port Vale at the weekend, got off the mark for the season with a tidy finish just before half-time and was then heavily involved in creating the second equaliser for Owen Dale to divert home from close range.

Artell was pleased with Ainley’s all round game, hailing his performance as ‘terrific’ in the 2-2 draw with the Premier League youngsters.

The Crewe boss said: “Callum was terrific and he gave us some life. He was galloping forward and the end product was there. He got his goal and was involved in the other one and that is what we need him to do.

“He got to grips with the formation and what we wanted him to do and he had a big influence on the game. He looked a different player really and he was a real threat.

“Callum showed real skill and it is up to me, Kenny (Lunt) and Callum himself to make sure we get the best out of him because he is an important player for us. He has to realise his value to us and what he can offer.

“We will give him all the love and help he needs and performances like that do not hurt. He was terrific for us.”
